Freight types for container ships

Just as with bulk carriers, there is also a wide range of cargo available for container ships in TransOcean 2: Rivals. As the name suggests, these goods will be transported in practical containers, which offers the advantage that they can pass through the transport chain over water and land, without having to be reloaded over and over again. Containers with furniture, antiques, textiles and toys can be transported by any container ship. For the transport of electrical appliances, luxury goods, medicines or even radioactive materials upgrades like a freight-damping, a sophisticated cooling system or a special license are required.

Different freight types

Today we want to give you a first insight into the different freight types of of the game. So let's start this series with the bulk carriers which will enable you to transport loose bulk materials such as coal, ores and salt or other semi-finished products and capital goods such as plastics for example. For the transport of bulk goods such as grain and sand you will have to upgrade your ships with so called big bags while coffee needs a ventilation system. To ship phosphates you will need a special license first.

A well-loved feature is back!

Full steam ahead: According to your wishes we are happy to announce the return of a well-loved feature today! During manual docking and undocking in the single player mode of TransOcean 2: Rivals you will once more be able to prove your skills at the helm!

This mini game occurs randomly whenever the tugboat crews decide to go on strike for better pay. The player now has to decide: Will I wait for the end of the labor dispute or will it be better to try my own hand at entering and leaving the docking area? The ports specially designed for the mini game emphasize on variety in the optimal route planning and the skilled circumnavigation of obstacles.

Next to the desire to avoid high repair costs by ensuring preferably accident-free arrivals and departures you can look forward to a bonus multiplier on delivered wares for flawlessly executed dockings. We hope you will have a lot of fun with this feature and wish you a skilled hand at the rudders of your ships!

Ship facts of the month

Next to the other ship types you will of course also have access to several classes of container ships in TransOcean 2: Rivals. The ship shown in the picture is a class 4 container ship - also known as New Panamax class. Ships of this class are meeting the size criteria for travelling through the newly expanded Panama Canal. Did you actually know that below the deck of the largest container ships there is enough space to set up a football field, an ice hockey field and a basketball court all at the same time?

Choosing the right type of ship

As you already know there will be bulk carriers and tankers available additionally to container ships for the first time in "TransOcean 2: Rivals". Since each of these ship types offer very specific advantages and disadvantages, you should choose wisely what the best option is at the given time before buying a new vessel. The contracts for bulk carriers usually offer more region points but relatively low premiums. The job offerings for tankers entice with enormously profitable premiums but will bring significantly less region points. Meanwhile container ships are known as a balanced ship class with a medium amount of region points and premiums.

The new automation function

Did you already know that "TransOcean 2: Rivals" will offer an automation function for your ships? This feature enables you to assign up to four objectives to a specific ship of your fleet. After doing so the ship will automatically steer to the next destination port where the captain selects new contracts all by himself before he sets sail to the next destination etc. This way even really large fleets can be managed comfortably and profitably at the same time.

The job system of TransOcean 2: Rivals

On your way to becoming the biggest shipping company of the world, the job system of "TransOcean 2: Rivals" plays an important role. While selecting the contracts offered in the ports you should of course keep an eye on the volume and delivery date of the goods as well as on the payments offered for each of the jobs. How many contracts you can accept simultaneously depends on the available capacity of the relevant vessels. Among other things, the premiums offered for each job also depend on the type of cargo and the distance to the destination port. It should be noted that contracts with lower premiums offer more region points. The latter determine your influence and the opportunity to open a subsidiary in a specific region. So, to gain an advantage over your competitors you always have to choose wisely if you want to go for money or region points at a given time.

After opening a subsidiary in a harbour you will receive profit-shares of this company every time you or one of your rivals is using its services.

E-Sport Club Munich plays TransOcean 2: Rivals

As you already know, apart from the thrilling single-player "TransOcean 2: Rivals" will also offer an enormously exciting multiplayer mode. To test whether the latter is also suitable for e-sports, we offered the members of the E-Sport Club Munich the opportunity to extensively test the alpha version of the TransOcean 2 multiplayer mode for a whole weekend in early December.

The conclusion of ESCM CEO Robert Fankhänel: "Our first test of TransOcean 2 provided us with some very enjoyable hours and and nights of gaming. Especially the multiplayer mode brings a lot of fun to the table and will certainly be one of the highlights at LAN parties, as soon as the game will become available. Even though TransOcean 2 is currently still in development, I can imagine that it will for sure be suitable for e-sports once the development process is finished. My advice for the developers: Make the gameplay a little bit more competitive than it already is." For sure we will take that to our hearts and we hope you are awaiting the final result as much as we do!

As a little appetizer here are some photos from the TransOcean 2 weekend at the E-Sport Club Munich. Ship ahoy!

Singleplayer-Facts of TransOcean 2: Rivals

Did you actually know that the exciting "Competition" mode of TransOcean 2: Rivals will not only be available in multiplayer games against real opponents but also as a single-player version against the AI? Just as in multiplayer you are allowed to define the length of the game by yourself and there are numerous and exciting victory conditions waiting for you. And of course you will also be able to choose by yourself if you want to compete against one or up to seven AI opponents. The more AI counterparts you select, and the higher you define the level of difficulty for each of these opponents, the more challenging the competition will be. Accordingly, you will have to rethink your strategy again and again and adapt it to the current situation.

Ship facts of the month

As announced before, next to container ships there will also be bulk carriers and tankers available in TransOcean 2: Rivals. Did you actually know that bulk materials such as nickel ore and others are able to liquefy? The pressure of the load and the movement of the ship can lead to the creation of a viscous slurry in the cargo area of the ship. If this happens, the movement of this slimy mass can result in the ship leaning to one side or in the worst case it will even capsize!

Multiplayer-Facts of TransOcean 2: Rivals

Did you actually know that the world map is divided into regions and that you will earn region points by delivering orders into destination ports of a region? After gaining a certain number of region points you are allowed to open your own branch offices in the ports of the corresponding region. Each branch office will offer certain functions (repair, refueling, upgrades, etc.) of which the owner will benefit. For example, every time an opposing player is refueling his ship, the owner of the branch office will gain a share of the revenues. Once a player owns the majority of branches in a region, the region turns into his sphere of influence and he benefits even more from opponents acting in "his" region. This way, the region and branch office system will offer a lot of room for cleverly devised strategies in multiplayer games!

Announcing TransOcean 2

Dear community,

first of all we would like to thank each of you for the tireless support and constructive feedback to TransOcean: The Shipping Company over the past weeks and months. We are very happy that the game is so popular and, thanks to such a vibrant community, is still on everyone's lips.

We apologize for being a little quiet lately, but be assured that we neither have abandoned the game nor have forgotten you. We used the time for an intense study of possible future development of the game. Together with the Deck13 Hamburg developer team we were thinking about your feedback and your wishes for the game and we discussed about the options for an implementation of your most desired features.

Due to the large number of suggestions and the implied work, we decided to start the development of a successor - the necessary extensions and improvements simply aren't realizable in form of a DLC for the first part of the game in a satisfactory way. The following new features of "TransOcean 2" are just an excerpt:

The development of TransOcean 2 has already started, but of course we are still grateful for any feedback from the community. The release of the PC and Mac versions is planned for 2016.
